NCC cadets will again make new adventures, preparations for climbing Himalayan peaks

NCC Himalayan Adventure: This upcoming mountaineering journey of NCC cadets will be not just a campaign, but will be a great example of the courage, discipline and teamwork of the youth.

NCC Himalayan Adventure: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) is going to go on a new mountaineering journey soon to awaken a sense of courage and adventure in its cadets. This time the team of 20 selected cadets will try to hoist the tricolor on one of the high peaks of the Himalayas after the monsoon. NCC Director General Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh said that the team has two options, Mount Yunam (6,111 meters) of Himachal Pradesh and Mount Shalang Dhura (5,678 meters) of Uttarakhand. One of these will be selected based on weather conditions.

Selection and preparation of cadets

About fifteen days ago, 150 cadets from across the country were called to Delhi, out of which the last team of 20 cadets was formed after strict selection. The number of boys and girls in this team has been kept equal. The average age of selected cadets is 20–21 years. Before the journey, they will be given special mountaineering training of 7-10 days. Generally, this training takes place in Uttarkashi, but due to recent natural disaster, it will be held this time at some other place in Uttarakhand. The team will also include 3 officers and 10-15 support staff.

NCC mountaineering pride and upcoming plan

NCC, the world’s largest uniformed youth organization, was established in 1948 and since then it has been filling a sense of leadership, discipline and patriotism in cadets. In May 2025, the NCC team won the name of the country by conquering Mount Everest. Earlier, Cadets have successfully rose peaks like Mount Congress II (6,250 m) and Mount Abi Gamin (7,335 m). Now NCC cadets will climb on Mount Shag Dhura for the first time, while the NCC flag has been waved earlier on Mount Yunam. Every year NCC conducts two major campaigns, one before the monsoon and the second after the monsoon.

National service and contribution

Lieutenant General Singh said that recently 2,000 NCC cadets and 500 My Bharat Volunteers formed the ‘New India’ logo in front of the ramparts of the Red Fort at the Independence Day celebrations. In addition, during the Operation Sindoor in May, 75,000 cadets contributed significantly to the country service by participating in traffic management, mob control, blood donation camps and civil defense activities.

This upcoming mountaineering journey of NCC cadets will not just be a campaign, but will be a great example of the courage, discipline and teamwork of the youth. Whether it is Mount Yunam or Mount Shalang Dhura, this time also the steps of the cadets will give new inspiration by waving the tricolor at the heights of the Himalayas.
