PM Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that a comprehensive strategy is necessary to deal with drug abuse. He said that there is a need to change the public perception about the police. Addressing the 60th All India Conference of Director Generals and Inspectors General of Police at the Indian Institute of Management Raipur on the concluding day, the Prime Minister called for regular monitoring of banned organizations, holistic development of left wing extremism free areas and adoption of innovative models for strengthening coastal security. He called for strengthening urban policing, reviving tourist police units and increasing public awareness about the Indian Civil Defense Code.

Urge to take advantage of AI

Union Home Minister Amit Shah and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and others participated in this conference organized on the theme ‘Developed India: Security Dimensions’. Talked about reorganizing policing in line with the aspirations of a developing nation moving towards ‘developed India’. The Prime Minister stressed the need to change public perception about the police, especially among the youth, through increased professionalism, sensitivity and accountability. Modi urged state and union territory police forces to adopt innovative strategies to integrate uninhabited islands, make more effective use of the integrated database under NATGRID and leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate actionable intelligence.

No compromise on security matters

Highlighting the need for stronger preparedness and coordination during natural disasters, Modi asked police chiefs to strengthen mechanisms for cyclone, flood and disaster management. He said that proactive planning, real-time coordination and quick response is necessary to protect lives. The conference discussed the long-term roadmap of policing towards Vision 2047, emerging trends in counter-terrorism and radicalisation, leveraging technology to enhance women’s safety, strategies to bring back Indian fugitives based abroad and strengthening forensic capabilities. In-depth discussions were also held on broader issues of national security in the meeting. In which it was said that India will not compromise with anyone in matters of national security nor will it bow under anyone’s pressure.
