PM Narendra Modi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday held a joint telephone conversation with European Council President His Majesty Antonio Costa and European Commission Chairman His Majesty Ursula von Der Leyen. During this dialogue, the leaders discussed further strengthening the bilateral relations between India and the European Union (EU). The leaders welcomed the progress made on cooperation in major areas such as trade, technology, investment, innovation, sustainable development, defense, security and supply chain flexibility. The three leaders reiterated the commitment to finalize the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) soon. The conversation also mentioned the ongoing struggle in Ukraine. The leaders exchanged ideas about possible efforts to end the struggle and peace establishment.

Invitation given for summit

Prime Minister Modi invited European leaders to India for the next India-European Union Summit, which is likely to gain further momentum to the strategic partnership. This dialogue is considered an important step towards promoting mutual trust, cooperation and global peace between India and the European Union. As the world’s largest democratic forces, India and European Union share a strong and close relationship based on beliefs, shared values ​​and a similar approach to the future. The leaders underlined the role of the Indo-European Union Strategic partnership in jointly addressing global issues, promoting stability and promoting rules-based arrangements for mutual prosperity.

There should be a peaceful solution to Russia-Ukraine conflict

Leaders also welcomed progress in bilateral relations in major areas such as trade, technology, investment, innovation, stability, defense, safety and supply chain flexibility and confirmed the early completion of the Indo-European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations and shared commitment to the implementation of the IMEEC corridor. In February, the European Union Commissioners made a historic visit to India. The leaders soon discussed the organizing of the next India-European Union Summit in India. Which will be decided at mutual convenience. Prime Minister Modi invited both leaders to India for this. The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, including efforts to end the struggle in Ukraine. Prime Minister Modi insisted on the peaceful solution to the Russia-Ukraine struggle. He reiterated India’s continuous support for early restoration of peace and stability. All the leaders said that they will remain in touch with each other.
