NEW DELHI: NHRC has issued notice to Kerala Chief Secretary and DGP. The Commission has sought a reply from both the officials within four weeks. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has automatically taken cognizance of a media report, in which the student attempted suicide in the hostel room on March 22, 2025, harassment of the warden in Kasargod district of Kerala. The third year nursing student died after being in a coma for three months.
The victim was earlier admitted to a private hospital in Mangaluru. After this, he was transferred to Kozhikode Medical College, where his condition remained critical till the death of the student. The Commission has found that if the news report is true, then this is a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim student. Therefore, the Commission issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Kerala and the Director General of Police seeking a report of the matter within four weeks.
It is known that according to media reports aired on 23 March 2025, classmates allegedly accused the hostel management of harassing the student at the workplace. He has alleged that the deceased was tortured despite being mentally unwell by the hostel warden.
