DK Shivakumar: Delhi Police has tightened its grip on Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar. As part of the investigation into the National Herald case, the police have issued a notice to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar seeking financial and transaction related details. The notice issued by the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) said that Shivkumar is likely to have important information related to the National Herald case registered against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on October 3 this year. In the notice dated November 29, EOW has asked Shivakumar to appear before December 19 or provide the sought information. The investigators have sought full details of his personal background, his association with the Congress Party and the money allegedly transferred by him or his affiliated organizations to Young Indians.

BJP is targeting

Sources close to the Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister said that he is being targeted for not aligning with the BJP. This is an indication that he is one of the prominent leaders of Congress who supported the party in crisis. He further said that Shivkumar is the most persecuted among the Congress leaders, but BJP will not succeed in breaking him. The notice states that you are informed that EOW, Delhi Police is investigating the FIR of the above mentioned case and you have important information regarding the above mentioned case. The EOW’s questions include the purpose of Shivakumar’s bank transfers, the source of these funds, details of any communication between him and Young Indian or AICC (All India Congress Committee) office-bearers, whether the payment was made on someone’s instructions, and whether he was aware of the intended use of the funds.

EOW asked for financial details

The EOW has also asked for income tax records, financial statements and any donation certificate issued in connection with the payment. The National Herald case, which began with a private complaint by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2013, is based on allegations that assets worth over Rs 988 crore of Associated Journals Limited (AJL) were acquired by Young Indian for Rs 50 lakh in 2010 through a transaction linked to AICC. The FIR, lodged by the EOW based on a complaint by the Enforcement Directorate, alleges criminal conspiracy, cheating and criminal breach of trust in connection with the transfer of AJL’s assets to Young Indian. Young Indian is a company in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have 76 percent stake.
