Now common man also entitled to Padma Award, nomination till 31 July

Online nominations and recommendations for the Padma Award-2026 to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day-2026 have started from 15 March 2025. The last date for nomination is 31 July 2025.

New Delhi: Online nominations and recommendations for the Padma Award-2026 to be announced on the occasion of Republic Day-2026 have started from 15 March 2025. The last date for nomination of Padma Awards is 31 July 2025. Nominations and recommendations for Padma Awards will be received online on National Awards portal https://awards.gov.in. The Padma Award ie Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri are among the highest civilian honors of the country.

These awards established in the year 1954 are announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day. Under these awards, citizens of the country are honored for ‘excellent work’. Padma Awards are provided for special and extraordinary achievements and service in all fields/subjects like art, literature and education, sports, medicine, social service, science and engineering, public work, business and industry etc.

Government is committed to making Padma Awards “Pips Padma”

All individuals are eligible for these awards without discrimination of caste, business, position or gender. Except for doctors and scientists, other government servants, including government servants working in public sector undertakings, are not eligible for Padma Awards. The government is committed to making the Padma Awards “Pips Padma”. The Government of India has requested all citizens to make nominations/recommendations. Citizens can also nominate themselves. Concrete efforts can be made to identify talented persons whose excellence and achievements are really recognized to identify such talented persons from women, weaker sections of society, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, disabled persons and people doing selfless service for society.

Enrollment and recommendations should include all the relevant details specified in the format available on the portal, which should include a quotation in descriptive form (maximum 800 words), which has clearly mentioned specific and extraordinary achievements and service in the respective field/discipline of the recommended person. The Ministry of Home Affairs has said that every citizen of the country can nominate themselves for this prize or get it recommended.

The intention of the government is that through this award, those talents should be exposed, who are engaged in the service of a society without any frills and contribute to the development of the country.
