New Delhi News: Delhi Public Works Minister Pravesh Verma inspected the Connaught Place Outer Circle on Sunday, where there was waterlogging after heavy rains a day earlier. He held the changes made in the 100 -year -old drainage system responsible for this waterlogging. PWD Minister Pravesh Verma said that he had visited the famous Kake da Hotel area a day earlier, when water had accumulated within 100 meters of the area due to heavy rains. He said that the root cause of this is a century old barrel drainage system. He said that over time, the construction of buildings in the Connaught Place area reduced the size of these barrels, which disrupted the natural flow and frequent waterlogging. Verma said that to solve this problem, we have installed two high -capacity pumps to reduce the load on the drain and pursue water more efficiently.
Jakheera, Minto Bridge, Moolchand free from waterlogging
The minister further stated that during his late night visit, he noticed that some shops had entered water, after which the Public Works Department conducted a detailed point -wise study to find a permanent solution to the problem. An official statement said that 34 important waterlogging points including Zakhira, Minto Bridge, Moolchand and ITO, which were in the grip of floods every year for the last decade, are now free from waterlogging. Minister Pravesh Verma said that the government has got this success due to continuous monitoring and quick action on the spot. He emphasized that the reports received through social media and press are being noted by field engineers. Verma said that wherever waterlogging is reported, I either go to the spot or send my engineers to inspect and fix the problem without any delay. This year, water logging on PWD roads has been very low. We are working at every point and will ensure that Delhi is completely free from waterlogging in the coming years.
You targeted the minister
Expressing grief over the death of a two and a half year old child who fell in the sewer, he said that this is a very unfortunate and heartbreaking incident. We are committed to all necessary measures to ensure that such tragedy never happens again. Police said that the boy died after falling into an open sewer in Kheda Khurd village in outside North Delhi amid heavy rains on Saturday morning. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) targeted Verma to go to Connaught Place on Sunday to inspect “delayed and meaningless”. AAP’s Delhi unit president Saurabh Bhardwaj said that Pravesh Verma “wakes up 24 hours after the city drowned” and is now “searching for pits” while he was on the ground when people were dying.
Questions raised on not meeting the relatives of the deceased
Pointing to the death from the collapsed wall and open sewer on Saturday, Bhardwaj said that the minister should meet the bereaved families and not from dry roads. If the minister really wanted to see waterlogging, then he should have gone out with an umbrella during the rain. Addressing a press conference, Bhardwaj questioned why the minister did not meet the families of seven people who died due to rain. The same thing happened last time. It rained throughout the day and when stopped in the evening, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta went for inspection. The heavy rains in the national capital proved to be fatal on Saturday morning when a wall collapsed near the Mohan Baba temple in Jaitpur, killing seven people and injuring one. Many of the dead were migrant laborers from West Bengal.
