Piyush Goyal on Trump Tariffs: Union Minister Piyush Goyal has given a statement about the tariff imposed by US President Donald in the Lok Sabha during the monsoon session of Parliament. During this, he said that the impact from this move of America is being assessed. He further said that we are taking all necessary steps to protect national interests. India is on the way to become the third largest economy in the world.
Meeting held on trade deal
It is worth noting that during the session, Union Minister Piyush Goyal also told in Parliament that there was a round of many meetings to finalize the agreement between India and US. US President Trump issued an order on tariff on 2 April 2025 and three days later a baseline tariff of 10 per cent was implemented. India was charged an additional 26 percent fee including baseline tariffs. This was then suspended for 90 days and then till 1 August.

Defense of India’s interests
Goyal also told that the conversation between India and the US started on the trade deal in March. Its purpose was to finalize the first phase of the deal by October-November 2025. For this, the first meeting was held in Delhi and the rest of the meeting was held at Washington DC. Not only this, there were many virtual meetings between the two countries.
25 percent tariff imposed on India
Trump has imposed a 25 percent tariff over India, which will be implemented from 1 August. During this, he has also given a statement about the relations between India and Russia.
