Police said that till now a total of 10 people have been arrested and sent to jail in five different FIRs registered in various police stations of the district.
Shahjahanpur (up): In Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, the police has started investigating sources of Rs 4 crore transferred to bank accounts associated with members of the Christian community accused of allegedly involved in conversion. A senior police officer said that four suspects have been detained in connection with the case. Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Dwivedi told PTI that during the investigation in Sidhauli, it was found that an organization named ‘Jesus ReadyMade’ in Tamil Nadu had transferred 25 lakh rupees to the bank account of Padmanabhan, a resident of Tamil Nadu, who was arrested from the area. Investigation further revealed that Jesus readymade’s bank account was opened in 2017 with an initial transaction of Rs 4.6 crore. He said that the officials are now checking the total amount and objective of transactions made through the account.
10 arrested so far
According to Dwivedi, the organization is suspected of transferring funds not only in Shahjahanpur but also in other districts and investigation is going on in those areas as well. Police said that till now a total of 10 people have been arrested and sent to jail in five different FIRs registered in various police stations of the district. Dwivedi said that the police is closely analyzing the financial transactions of all the arrested persons under the “Money Trail” investigation. He said that we suspect that the funds received in the account of the organization of Tamil Nadu must have come from foreign sources. He said that many teams including cyber cells have been deployed to monitor the financial flow and it is expected to get any success soon.
Four suspects are being questioned
The SP also said that two members of the Christian community Harishchandra (50) and his son Shailesh (25) were detained during a prayer meeting in Kumbhi village under Khutar police station on Sunday. A formal case has been registered against him and the police is questioning both. Similarly, two more people of Christian community Hemraj and Ompal have been detained in connection with alleged conversion activities in Chaena Rubia village of Nigohi police station area. SP Dwivedi said that the financial evidence we have exposed so far, they point to a serious issue. He further said that our teams are working with full dedication and we are confident that a detailed disclosure will be made soon.
