The Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) said that the purpose of merger is to increase the quality of education and this will not cause any inconvenience to the students.
Lucknow: In the midst of the opposition’s criticism for the merger of government primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, Minister of State for Basic Education (Independent Charge) Sandeep Singh assured that the posts of teachers will not be abolished. He said that new appointments will be made as required to maintain the student-teacher ratio. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Singh said that the purpose of the merger is to increase the quality of education and this will not cause any inconvenience to the students. He said that about 10,000 schools have been marked for merger and this process, where necessary, will be completed in the coming week, with solution of schools. Singh said that the merger of schools with less than 50 students is being considered.
Appointment of teachers will be done if needed
However, if students have difficulty in movement, such as the merged school is more than one kilometer away or geographical challenges arise, the merger will be canceled. He stressed that all 132,886 government primary schools of the state will continue to run and will maintain a valid UDISE (Integrated District Information System for Education) Code. Solving the possibility of going to the job, Singh said that the posts of teachers will not be abolished. All sanctioned posts will remain unchanged, including the posts of Principal. If needed, we will appoint new teachers to maintain the essential student-teacher ratio. Singh further stated that the process of merger will be completed within a week and the buildings of the vacant schools will be rebuilt due to the merger.
Child garden will be operational by 15 August
He said that according to the national order, admission to class one starts from the age of six years. Therefore, to meet pre-primary requirements, these hairs will be operational by August 15. Singh clarified that the state government has never stopped recruitment and is committed to fulfilling educational standards. We are following the criteria. A teacher on 30 students in pre-primary schools and a teacher on 35 students in upper primary schools. Each merged school will have three teachers, two assistant teachers and one education friend to ensure uninterrupted educational activities. He accused the opposition parties, especially the Samajwadi Party and accused him of politicizing the issue.
27.53 lakh new students enrollment
He said that before 2017 there was a lack of infrastructure in government schools. At a cost of more than Rs 11,500 crore under Operation Rejuvenation, we equipped 96 percent schools with essential facilities like drinking water, toilets and mid -day meals. Due to this, Dalit families have also been encouraged to send their children to government schools. Highlighting the recent progress, the minister said that in the academic session 2025-26 alone, we enrolled 27.53 lakh new students. The government is fully committed to improving the future of children through quality education.
