UGC News: Before the start of the academic session 2025, the University Grants Commission has taken a big decision. The UGC has refused to run subjects like Psychology, Nutrition and Healthcare in online mode.
UGC News: University grant commission (UGC) Has given clear instructions to all universities and colleges that they should not run subjects like Psychology, Nutrition and Healthcare in online mode in the year 2025. The UGC has implemented this decision under the National Affairs and Health Services Business Commission (NCAHP) Act, 2021. Instructions have been issued for subjects such as psychology, microbiology, food and nutrition, biotechnology, clinical nutrition and dietics in the health sector.
Will not apply in online modes
UGC Secretary Manish Joshi said that any higher education institute (Hey) The NCNR Act, including Psychology as expertise under the academic session 2025 and then under the Open and distance learning and online mode will not be allowed to offer any affiliated and healthcare program in the NCNR Act, 2021. Joshi further said that the academic session July-August 2025 and then will withdraw any recognition to Hei to offer such programs by the UGC.
Admission will be on standards of NCAHP Act
Joshi said that only the NCAHP Act, 2021 will be withdrawn in programs like Bachelor of Arts (English, Hindi, Punjabi, Economics, Mathematics, History, Public Administration, Political Science, Philosophy, Statics, Human Rights and Duties, Sanskrit, Psychology, Geography, Sociology, Women Studies). He has instructed the institutions not to provide entrepreneurs to any student in such programs in the upcoming academic session.
Why did UGC take such a decision?
This instruction was taken on the UGC keeping in mind the commercial training. The UGC Secretary said that this decision was taken after recommendation of the meeting of the 24th Distance Education Bureau Working Group held in April 2025 and it was recently formally given in the Commission meeting. In this series, Higher Education Regulator has banned commercial and practical based subjects through distance education and online mediums. These mainly include engineering, medicine, dental, pharmacy, nursing, architecture, physiotherapy, applied arts, paramedical subjects, agriculture, horticulture, hotel management, catering technology, visual arts and laws etc.
