Bengaluru: A special Bangalore court on Saturday sentenced former MP and suspended JD (S) leader Prajwal Revanna to life imprisonment in a rape case. Special court judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat also imposed a total fine of Rs 10 lakh on the accused for MPs/MLAs. The court on Friday convicted 34 -year -old Prajwal Revanna in one of the four sexual exploitation and rape cases lodged against him and kept the punishment for Saturday. The case belongs to a 48 -year -old woman who was working as an assistant to the family’s Gannikada Farmhouse in Holenarsipura in Hassan district. In 2021, he was allegedly raped twice at Hasan Farm House and Bangalore residence and the accused recorded the act in his mobile phone.
The court requested the court to give less punishment
Earlier on Saturday, the prosecution demanded a sentence of life imprisonment for Revanna, while the accused, while requesting him to be soft, claimed that he did nothing wrong and his only mistake was his rapid development in politics. He cried in the court demanding a low punishment. The accused told the court that he is a BE mechanical graduate and has always passed on merit. Prajwal told the court that he says that I have raped many women, but no woman came to complain voluntarily, she came six days before the election (last year’s Lok Sabha elections). The prosecution brought them intentionally and lodged a complaint with him. Prajwal said that I have a family. I have not seen my mother and father for six months. Please punish me less, this is what I request to the court.
113 witnesses made statements
Prajwal, who was arrested in May last year on coming from Germany, told the court that the only mistake in my life is to move fast in politics. In September 2024, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) investigating the case filed a 1,632 -page charge sheet with 113 witnesses in the case. Revannah on Section 376 (2) (K) (being in a state of control or dominance, raping such a woman), Section 354B (using the woman’s clothes or using criminal forces), 354C (hiding), 506 (criminal threats) and 201 (Disappearance of the evidence) and the case was recorded under the IT Act Section 66D Was.
The party suspended after the case
Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Nayak and Additional SPP BN Jagdish had said that the court has accepted the prosecution case and convicted him in all the cases. Given that the prosecution investigated 26 witnesses and marked 180 documents and the main evidence belongs to the victim. Nayak said that the prosecution trusted not only on oral evidence, but also on digital and technical evidence, DNA reports and forensic science laboratory reports. The clothes worn by the victim were also identified during the rape. Before the Lok Sabha elections to be held on 26 April, 2024 in Hasan, Revanna was arrested by the SIT on May 31 last year in a case registered at Holenarsipura Town Police Station at Bangalore Airport from Germany. Revanna had failed in his attempt to maintain the Hasan parliamentary constituency in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. After the cases registered against him, JD (S) suspended him from the party.
