New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested an agent who sent many people to several countries including the US through fake documents. The accused has been identified as Naresh Kumar, a resident of Matouli village in Patiala, Punjab. He was arrested after sending an Indian passenger from the US back. The accused had arranged fake visas with other agents and later tampered with the passport of the passenger to hide the fraud.

The matter came to light on the night of April 4 and 5 when Gursahib Singh (39) reached the IGI Airport from America. During the investigation of his travel documents, immigration officials saw gum marks on a page of his passport, which were indicating tampering. A senior police officer said that Gursahib Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district of Punjab, was later booked under the relevant sections of the Indian Justice and Passport Act at IGI Airport Police Station. He was arrested and questioned.

During this time he told the police that after returning to India from Singapore in 2024, he came in contact with an agent named Gurdev Singh alias ‘Gurri’, who promised to help him enter America illegally in exchange for Rs 20 lakh. According to the plan, Singh was sent via several countries including UK, Spain, Guatemala, Mexico and finally Tijuana, from where he illegally entered the US through ‘Danki Route’. Before entering the US, a colleague of agents obtained a fake Schengen visa and pasted it on the passport of the accused Singh, which was later tampered with to hide the fake visa.

However, Gursahib Singh was detained by American officials and sent to India after keeping in custody for three months. He was arrested as soon as Gursahib Singh came to India. During the investigation, Gursahib took the name of Naresh Kumar. After this Naresh Kumar was arrested.

The official said that during continuous interrogation, Naresh Kumar confessed his role in forgery and revealed that he and his brother had been working as a travel agent for many years. He said that he admitted to working with Gurdev Singh on the basis of commission and confirmed to get Rs 3 lakh from the passenger. Efforts are on to find Gurdev Singh, which is still absconding. Police said that the bank accounts of accused Kumar are also being investigated.
