New Delhi: In view of next year’s assembly elections in Assam, the political stir has intensified. The Congress is pushing the heel peak to hold power. In this connection, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi met the leaders of Assam on Friday to discuss the strategy before the state assembly elections next year. He hoped that the party Himanta Biswa Sarma would drop the government out of power.
Egoistic and corrupt told Assam government

Sources said that Kharge and Rahul Gandhi urged the leaders to work with unity, strength and coordination to exclude the Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state. He called the Assam government “egoistic and corrupt”. All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary KC Venugopal and Assam General Secretary Jitendra Singh were also present here at the new Indira Bhavan headquarters of the party here.
Congress has a rich heritage to give honest, public-interest governance
Rahul Gandhi said that today he met members of the newly formed Assam Congress Committee at the Congress headquarters Indira Bhavan under the leadership of President Mallikarjun Kharge. Venugopal said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had a meeting with the newly appointed Assam PCC leadership team to prepare our plans for the coming year. People are suffering from tyrannical and corrupt CM in Assam. The Congress has a rich heritage to give honest, public-interest governance and we are confident that in 2026 people will exclude the Himant government for its egoistic and destructive tenure.
People of Assam want jobs, no gun
Gogoi said that this was an inspirational moment for me as Assam (Congress) President. I got guidelines from the top leadership and my resolve to pursue the organization became even stronger. He said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, KC Venugopal, Jitendra Singh have given us the target of Mission 2026. Through this goal, the government that has done corruption, loot and communal politics in Assam has to be removed. In response to a question, Gogoi said that the people of Assam want a job, not a gun and the BJP will only give a gun to its workers. Local traders and shopkeepers will be harassed. The bad days of killing and threatening of honest traders are going to return again.
Congress’s energetic team will bring change in Assam
He said that Mission 2026 will provide social, economic and political justice to Assam and its people. Corruption of coal syndicate has created many problems in Assam. Minorities, Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) are being ignored. His dreams are being ignored. People now have expectations from Congress. He said that the energetic new team of Congress is going to bring change in Assam. Assam’s most corrupt and immoral BJP government is now a guest of a few days. He said that we have seen that since the new team of Assam Congress has been formed, the CM of Assam and the entire BJP have lost their balance. 2026 is going to be the year of change in Assam. The Congress is coming with the support of the public.
