Rahul's promise- Law for EBC will be made on the lines of SC/ST Act

Bihar Election: The former Congress chief said that education is the biggest means of progress for these communities, so there is a special proposal to increase their reach in this area.

Bihar Election: A day after starting the ‘Extreme Backward Justice Resolution’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that no matter how much lies and disorientation BJP spreads, the Grand Alliance is firm to ensure full rights for the most backward, Dalit, tribal, minority and backward communities. Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reached the numerically powerful extremely backward classes (EBC) of Bihar and promised other things that if India block in the state came to power, then a law would be enacted to protect against atrocities on the lines of SC/ST Act. A few days before the announcement of the assembly elections, Gandhi’s aggressive access to EBC came out in the ‘Extreme Backward Justice Resolution’ program. The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, who came to Patna to attend the meeting of the Congress Working Committee, participated in the event along with other colleagues of the grand alliance including the party’s national president Mallikarjun Kharge and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav.

Reservation in private colleges also advocated

Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X that no matter how many lies and disorientation BJP spreads, we are firm to ensure that extremely backward, Dalit, tribal, minority and backward communities should get their full rights. He said that to strengthen the most backward communities in Bihar and increase their participation, we have made concrete promises in the “OBC Sankalp letter”. The former Congress chief said that education is the biggest means of progress for these communities, so there is a special proposal to increase their reach in this area. Now reservation will be applicable in private colleges and universities. Half of the reserved seats in private colleges will be implemented for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes/EBC children and the unjust system of not finding suitable in appointments will be abolished. Gandhi insisted that this is not just a fight for education, but a fight for equality and respect for extremely backward communities. This is a guarantee of true social justice and equal development.

EBC 36 percent of the total population of the state

In his brief speech on Wednesday, Gandhi had read 10 resolutions, especially the welfare of the disadvantaged castes including SC, ST and OBC. According to the caste survey conducted by Nitish Kumar government a few years ago, EBC is 36 percent of the state’s total population. In addition to the ‘EBC Atrocities Prevention Act’, 10 resolutions were promised to increase the quota from the current 20 percent to 30 percent in local bodies and panchayats. Apart from this, in government contracts up to Rs 25 crore for SC, ST, OBC and EBC, entry into private educational institutions of the state and landless families of underprivileged castes in urban areas and three decimals in urban areas and five decimals in rural areas have been promised to give a total quota. The JD (U) chief has developed this feeling in the last several years.
