More than 4 lakh personnel have been deployed to ensure peaceful voting. Nepal has sealed its border with India from Saturday ahead of the second phase of Bihar assembly elections and stopped the movement of vehicles on the Birgunj-Raxaul border. Officials said that voting will be held at 45,399 polling stations in 122 assembly constituencies, of which 40,073 will be in rural areas. According to state police sources, there are around 8,491 critical polling station locations (PSLs) where security personnel will remain extra alert during polling. He said around 500 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (around 50,000 personnel) were engaged in pre-poll duties in Bihar. Later 500 more companies of CAPF reached the state.
Gayaji has the maximum number of 1,084 sensitive centres.
A senior official said that more than 60,000 Bihar Police personnel have also been deployed for election duty. He said around 2,000 personnel of reserve battalions from other states, 30,000 personnel of Bihar Special Armed Police, more than 20,000 home guards, around 19,000 newly recruited constables (who are undergoing training) and around 1.5 lakh chowkidars (rural police) are also engaged in election duty for both the phases. When asked about the number of sensitive polling booths in the second phase, the official said that all the booths are equally important from the security point of view. Gayaji has the highest number of sensitive PSLs at 1,084. After this, Aurangabad (942), Rohtas (827), Nawada (690), Banka (613), Bhagalpur (574), Bettiah (526), Araria (518), Supaul (406), Bagaha (368), Jamui (357), Bhabua (325), Arwal (315), Jehanabad (287), Madhubani (282) etc. The official said that the number of PSLs in Kishanganj, Purnia, Motihari and Sitamarhi is zero. Apart from this, there are 13,651 settlements in 122 seats, which have been identified as ‘unsafe’.

He said that Election Commission officials and security personnel are making special arrangements to ensure smooth voting in these sensitive areas. In Bihar, on November 6, more than 65 percent voting took place in the first phase of voting in 121 assembly constituencies. On the other hand, Nepal has sealed its border with India from Saturday ahead of the second phase of Bihar assembly elections. Movement of vehicles has been restricted on the Birgunj-Raxaul border. Officials said that India-Nepal border posts in southern Nepal have been closed for 72 hours as part of tight security arrangements during the elections in the neighboring country. Superintendent of Police Heramba Sharma of Mahotari District Police Office told PTI that elections are being held in Bihar, India on November 11. Therefore, we have stopped the movement of vehicles on the border due to security reasons. He said that all the border posts in Mahotari district have been sealed. He further said that these posts will be reopened after the voting is over.
