Maharashtra News: Politics has been hot due to local elections in Maharashtra. The Supreme Court has also directed the Maharashtra government and the State Election Commission to conduct elections till January 31, 2026.

Maharashtra News: The Supreme Court has directed the Maharashtra government and the state elections to hold local body elections by 31 January 2026. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi has also directed the state officials to complete the delimitation process by October 10, 2025. The Supreme Court objected to the decision in which the rational order issued on May 6 was not followed and SEC failed to take quick action. Meanwhile, NCP (Sharad Chandra Pawar) said on Tuesday that the BJP -led Maharashtra government and the State Election Commission should immediately follow the decision of the top court to hold the local body elections soon.

Supreme Court action will have to be faced

NCP (SP) spokesperson Clyde Crasto said that if they fail to do so again, the Supreme Court should take strict action. He was giving his response to the Supreme Court order that it is said that the election should be completed by 31 January 2025. The Supreme Court failed by the Supreme Court in the decision to not conduct time for the local body elections stopped by the State Election Commission. The social media platform X alleged that the BJP -led government and the State Election Commission had earlier disrespect the Supreme Court order issued on 6 May, in which it was directed to notify the local body elections for four weeks and hold elections within four months.

Is BJP afraid of local election: Cresto

The NCP spokesperson said that now the highest body has given the State Election Commission a deadline till 31 January 2026 without any further delay. The BJP -led Maharashtra government and the Election Commission should follow the order immediately. If he delays the implementation of this instruction once, then the apex court will have to face strict action. Cresto asked if the BJP is afraid of elections? He further said that the election body should be held on time as per the instructions of the apex court, otherwise the doubt of BJP’s impact will go deeper. Explain that after the order of the Supreme Court, elections of all local bodies including Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Committees and all the municipalities will be held by 31 January 2026.
