Sheikh Hasina Sentenced Death: Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal have been sentenced to death by the Dhaka-based International Criminal Tribunal. The court has sentenced him to death after finding him guilty of crimes against humanity. Korn has admitted that Sheikh Hasina had opened fire on unarmed people during the protest in August last year.

The Tribunal Court accepted that in order to calm down the student protest in August 2024, the protesters were attacked with drones and helicopters. After the protests turned violent, Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. Since then she has been living in India.

Order to fire on protesters

There is an atmosphere of tension in Bangladesh after the decision of the tribunal court. The court has already made tight security arrangements. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed in four districts including Dhaka. Police in Dhaka have been ordered to open fire on violent protesters as tensions rise over the law and order situation ahead of Monday’s verdict. After the court’s decision, there is a fear of rioting by supporters of Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League. This decision is a very big decision in the politics of Bangladesh.

Court heard 54 witnesses

The court has heard a total of 54 witnesses. The court said, we examined the evidence received from across the country and from various sources. We also reviewed reports from UN agencies and concluded that crimes against humanity were committed on the orders of Sheikh Hasina and the Home Minister. The court ruled that Sheikh Hasina is guilty. He is being convicted on the basis of inciting people, ordering murder and not taking action against the criminals. The court said that more than 1,400 murders took place during the protests.

The Tribunal Court of Bangladesh has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to death after finding her guilty of crimes against humanity. Along with Hasina, her home minister and former police chief Chaudhry Abdullah has also been sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. The court said that after July 19, several meetings were held at the Home Minister’s residence, in which instructions were given to suppress the student movement. Sheikh Hasina ordered a core committee to target the protesters, while Awami League supporters actively harassed the protesters.
