Special trains arrangements for tourists trapped in Jammu

Special trains launched by Indian Railways to bring tourists stranded in Jammu and Kashmir to their destination provided relief to hundreds of passengers.

Jammu: After the Pahalgam terror attack, the railway administration has arranged special trains. So that the trapped passengers can be transported to their destination. Thousands of passengers are stranded at various stations since the attack. Passengers have postponed their plan to visit many places in Kashmir. Now they are restless to return their homes as soon as possible. In view of this, special trains started by Indian Railways to bring tourists stranded in Jammu and Kashmir to their destination provided relief to hundreds of passengers. On Thursday morning, another special train left for Katra from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi railway station.

The railway spokesperson said that three railway stations, SVDK, Shaheed Captain Tushar Mahajan (MCTM) railway station, Udhampur and Jammu Tawi (JAT) railway station were taken to tourists from special trains. After the attack, the railway initiative in Jammu and Kashmir brought a lot of relief to the passengers, including the establishment of a helpdesk in SVDK and JAT and a war room in JAT control with a helpline. Regular announcements are being made about special trains and the presence of any suspicious object or person at these stations.

The spokesperson said that JAT Helpdesk and ticket checking staff in Jammu did extraordinary work by adjusting about 165 trapped tourists in various trains like 12920, 22942, 20434, 22432, 12414, 12446 and 14662. He said that about 170 passengers reached MCTM station from Sangaldan railway station, out of which 40 were adjusted in 14504, 60 in 14612, 54 in 22462 and 16 in 12550.

He informed that a special train 04612 was planned from SVDK for NDLS and it was maintained in a very short time. About 67 percent passengers were aboard it. It had about 580 reserved passengers and about 180 unreserved passengers. In addition to the 04612 train in close coordination with IRCTC, local NGO, Railway Protection Force and GRP, food and water were provided at all three stations.
