Punjab: The CBI court of Mohali has sentenced four Punjab Police officers to five years in the 2007 Moga sex scandal. SSP Davinder Singh Garcha, then SP (Headquarters) Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, then Moga SHO Raman Kumar and Inspector Amarjeet Singh were sent to jail. Along with this, a fine of two lakh rupees has also been imposed on all.

The convicts include the then SSP Davinder Singh Garcha, former SP headquarters Moga Paramdeep Singh Sandhu, former SHO Raman Kumar of Moga City Police Station and Amarjeet Singh, Inspector of City Police Station of Moga. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh each on the culprits. At the same time, the CBI court has fined former SHO Raman Kumar under the sections of the ransom Act of three years and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Ranjit Singh filed a case in the court against the culprits. At the same time, accused Barjinder Singh alias Butter and Sukhraj Singh, son of Akali leader Tota Singh, have been acquitted in the case.
What was Moga sex scandal
In 2007, this matter came to light during the Akali-BJP government in the state. Police station of Moga had registered a case of gang rape on the complaint of a village girl in Jagraon. After this, the victim’s statements were recorded. In this, he accused about 50 unidentified people of rape. It is alleged that police officers started blackmailing in the investigation of this case. He added the names of many traders and politicians in the case.
Meanwhile, Ranjit Singh of Bhagi village of Moga recorded the audio to ask for 50 thousand rupees by SHO Amarjeet Singh. He was threatened that he would arrest him in the case of rape for not giving money. Ranjit complained to Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order).
After this, this matter came under discussion. When the names of politicians and traders started coming in this case and this case started making headlines in the media, on 12 November 2007, the Punjab and Haryana High Court took cognizance of the matter itself. At the same time, the police sought a report of this case. After this, after investigating the entire case, the High Court handed over the case to the CBI.
