Demolition of Babri Masjid: The dispute over Ayodhya’s Babri Masjid and Ram Janmabhoomi is not just a historical debate, but a centuries-long journey of faith, politics, struggle and court hearings that has left a deep mark on India’s social identity. The decision of the Supreme Court of 2019 and the grand Ram Temple standing today may have given a new shape to this long chapter, but its story is still fresh in the hearts of the people.

Why does the story continue to resonate?

December 6, 1992 is not just a date in the calendar, but a day which the country saw differently. On the same day, the Babri Masjid built on the disputed site collapsed and the country continued to go through riots, curfew and tension for several days. Thousands of people were affected that day and many layers of the society were shaken. On the other hand, for Uttar Pradesh, this was not just a political issue, but had become a part of memories, fear and conflict. For a large part of the Hindu community, this place symbolized the birthplace of Lord Ram, while for the Muslim community, it was his religious place.

beginning of the story

In the year 1528, Babar’s commander Mir Baqi built the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Many Hindus believe that earlier there was a big Ram temple here. This debate gradually increased and in the 19th century, the British divided this place with a wall and made arrangements for Muslims to offer namaz inside and Hindus to worship outside. Then in the year 1949, idols of Ramlala appeared inside the temple and the administration declared the place disputed and locked it. Hindus continued to get permission to worship outside, due to which gradually people started getting emotionally attached to this place.

that day of 1992

On December 6, 1992, lakhs of Kar Sevaks gathered in Ayodhya and by noon the centuries-old mosque collapsed. After this, violence, riots and social cracks were seen across the country. This incident was such a turning point in Indian politics and society that changed the direction of the entire country. An investigation was conducted on this and many political leaders were accused of making inflammatory speeches. However, history still debates whether all this was a well-thought-out plan or just the whim of the crowd. There itself,

beginning of a new era

After a legal battle that lasted for almost 70 years, in the year 2019, the Supreme Court ruled that Ram Temple would be built on the disputed land. Apart from this, 5 acres of land will be given to the Muslim community in Ayodhya for a mosque. Then in January 2024, Ram temple was inaugurated and the age-old demand of crores of people was fulfilled. Today this temple is considered not only a center of faith but also a symbol of cultural renaissance.
