Strong voice of tribal politics became silent! 'Dishom Guru' of Jharkhand is no more

Shibu Soren Death: Shibu Soren’s death is not only for Jharkhand, but is an irreparable loss for the tribal politics and social justice movement of the entire country.

Shibu Soren Death: Shibu Soren, founder of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and pioneer of tribal politics, died on Monday. He was 81 years old and was undergoing treatment for kidney disease at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi for the last one month. Sharing this information on social media, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand and his son Hemant Soren wrote, “Respected direction Guruji is no more … Today I am zero.”

Effective presence of four decades in politics

Shibu Soren left a deep impression in national and regional politics for four decades. He was a member of the Lok Sabha eight times and twice a member of Rajya Sabha. He has served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, former Union Minister at the Center, and permanent president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

Shibu was the voice of tribal consciousness

Shibu Soren was born in a Santhal tribal family in Ramgarh district of present Jharkhand. In 1972, he established the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha along with Leftist Trade Union leaders AK Roy and Binod Bihari Mahato. In 1980, he became an MP from Dumka Lok Sabha seat for the first time, which remained his stronghold for years. However, in 2019, he lost the election on this seat to Nalin Soren of BJP. Despite this, Shibu Soren remained a inspiring power in the politics of Jharkhand.

‘Guruji’ struggled till the last days

Shibu Soren was struggling with health problems for the past several years. He was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi when his condition deteriorated in the last week of June 2024. He was kept on ventilator support due to the critical condition. His health worsened on Sunday night and he breathed his last on Monday.

Shibu Soren’s death is an irreparable loss not only for Jharkhand, but for the tribal politics and social justice movement of the entire country. Famous known as ‘Dishom Guru’, this Jannayak not only fought for the formation of state, but also gave voice to the soul of Jharkhand in politics. Their departure is the end of an era, whose echo will be felt in the politics and society of Jharkhand for decades to come.
