Entrepreneurship: The Punjab government has introduced Entrepreneurship as a main subject for students of class XI, which aims to promote the mentality of entrepreneurship. The government believes that students should encourage to become a job maker instead of job seekers. This initiative, starting in 2025-26 academic year, was inaugurated by Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains on Friday with Punjab AAP in-charge Manish Sisodia. Addressing the launch ceremony held here, School Education Minister Bains claimed that Punjab has become the first state in the country to formally include entrepreneurship as a main subject in schooling, which has empowered students to become innovators, problems and job builders. Highlighting the main features of the newly launched subject, the Education Minister said that the syllabus has been made experienced and practical.

School-based evaluation instead of written examination

According to an official statement, he said that students will form teams, develop commercial views, make prototypes, strive for seed funding and launch their products or services in the market. He further said that there will be no burden of examination. There will be a school-based evaluation instead of written examination. The assessment will include self-assessment, colleague-assessment and teacher or mentor assessment, which will promote a supporting teaching environment. He said that this course will ensure attractive teaching without additional pressure on students with an annual allocated 18 periods (3 theory + 15 project-based). Highlighting the economic influence of the initiative, Bains said that with more than 2.68 lakh students in 3,840 senior secondary schools, even 10 percent success rate can generate Rs 300-400 crore in annual student-deducted economic activity.

Teachers will work as a startup coach

He said that the purpose of this initiative is to nurture creativity, flexibility and problem-solution skills. Students have to empower them to make them instead of waiting for opportunities. Our classes will turn into an incubator of ideas and teachers will work as a startup coach. Students will advise to become leaders and job makers. He said that this initiative promotes innovation, decision -making and self -reliance among the students, as well as promotes sustainable economic development. School Education Minister Bains said that the initiative is an important milestone in the success story of ‘Punjab Business Blasters Program’, which was launched in November 2022 under the ‘Punjab Young Entrepreneurs’ Program.
