Leh Violence Update: The Supreme Court will hear on Monday on the petition of the wife of the climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, arrested under the National Security Act (NSA) on charges of violence in Leh.

Leh Violence Update : Some time ago, the Supreme Court will hear the petition given by Geetanjali Angamo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, arrested on charges of violence in Leh. The bench of Justice Arvind Kumar and Justice NV Anjaria will hear the petition filed against the custody of Sonam Wangchuk on the matter. His release has also been demanded in this.

Wangchuk arrested under NSA

Two days after the violent protests by Leh police last week, former educationist and climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was taken into custody. After this, Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to Jodhpur jail in Rajasthan. Since then, a case has been registered against Sonam Wangchuk under the Strict National Security Act (NSA).

What said Sonam Wangchuk’s wife

Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali Angamo said in her petition that she has not been getting any information about her husband for more than a week. Neither the police administration nor local officials are giving clear life -knowing where and in what position Wangchuk is. The petition has demanded that the Supreme Court immediately intervene, directing Sonam Wangchuk to present before the court, so that their safety and legal rights can be ensured.

A plea to meet husband

In the petition, Deputy Commissioner of Ministry of Home Affairs, Ladakh Union Territory Administration, Leh and Jodhpur Jail Superintendent have been made party. Along with this, it has also been demanded to give them instructions that they allow the petitioner to get the telephone and personally immediately from her husband. Along with this, the petition alleged that Wangchuk’s custody is illegal, arbitrary and unconstitutional, which is a violation of the fundamental rights provided under Articles 14, 19, 21 and 22 of the Constitution.

Always have peaceful support

It also states that Wangchuk, who has been internationally acclaimed, environmentalists and social reformers. He has always protested in Gandhian and peaceful ways to highlight Ladakh’s ecological and democratic concerns.

Taken to jail without any contact

It has also been mentioned in the petition that he has been immediately shifted to the Central Jail of Jodhpur without contacting medicines, personal goods or their family and lawyer. He further said that no basis has been told to take Wangchuk into custody.
