karnataka politics: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday dismissed speculations about cabinet reshuffle in the state, calling it a rumor running in the media. State Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister Shivkumar said that the party high command will take a decision on this. As the Congress government reaches the halfway point of its five-year term in November, speculations are rife about change of leadership and cabinet reshuffle in the state, which some people are seeing as the “November Revolution”. Responding to a question, Shivkumar told reporters that there is no cabinet reshuffle, nothing. This is all a rumor in the media, some people are listening. The conversation is in the media. Either I or the Chief Minister will have to speak about this. What’s the point in this when neither of us have talked?”
Some people are in a hurry to become ministers
He said that some people are in a hurry to become ministers. If their names appear in the media, they will go to every house (of the leaders). There is no possibility of this. Everything will be decided by the high command. According to party sources, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his camp are insisting on reshuffle. He said that there is no move by the Chief Minister to influence the cabinet reshuffle as the government is about to complete two and a half years. There is speculation in political circles in the state, especially within the ruling Congress, about a change of chief minister later this year, with claims of a power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar.
Two posts vacant in the cabinet
For some time now, a section of Congress MLAs aspirants for ministerial posts have also been demanding their inclusion in the cabinet through reshuffle. Some have even openly expressed their desire to become ministers. The sanctioned strength of ministers in Karnataka is 34 including the Chief Minister. Two posts in the cabinet are currently vacant. First, this post is vacant after the resignation of B Nagendra from the post of minister following allegations of embezzlement in Karnataka Maharishi Valmiki ST Development Corporation. Whereas the second post is lying vacant since KN Rajanna was recently dismissed from the cabinet on the instructions of the party high command.
