Suspense ends: Modi government will make caste census

The Modi government will conduct caste census. Apart from this, the cabinet approved the proper and beneficial price of sugarcane payable to sugarcane farmers by sugar mills for Chinese season 2025-26.

New Delhi: In a major decision on Wednesday, the Modi government decided to include caste calculations in a transparent manner in the upcoming census. Announcing the decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the census is under the jurisdiction of the center. Accusing the states ruled by the opposition parties of conducting caste survey for political reasons, the minister said that it is the resolution of the Modi government that caste census should be included transparently in the upcoming All India Census exercises.

About 6 lakh workers benefit with 5 crore sugarcane farmers

Said that the census practice was to start in April 2020, but due to Kovid epidemic, it was delayed. The Modi government will conduct caste census. Apart from this, the cabinet also announced a profitable price for sugarcane farmers. For season 2025-26, sugarcane farmers will be given a fair and beneficial price of Rs 355 per quintal. This decision of the government will benefit 5 crore sugarcane farmers as well as about 6 lakh workers working in sugar mills. The cabinet took several important decisions on Wednesday.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the development of the Greenfield high-speed corridor of 166.80 km (NH-6) from Mavalingkhung (near Silchar) in Meghalaya to Panchgram (near Silchar) in Assam. The total cost of which is Rs 22,864 crore.

Greenfield high-speed corridor from Shillong to Silchar

The proposed Greenfield high-speed corridor will facilitate traffic from Guwahati to Silchar. This corridor will facilitate the movement between Assam and Meghalaya and promote economic development including development of industries in Meghalaya, as it passes through Cement and Coal Production areas of Meghalaya. This corridor will also meet the needs of national and international tourists coming from Guwahati Airport, Shillong Airport, Silchar Airport (through existing NH-06), which connects Guwahati to Silchar.

Promoting the development of Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from Caridor

Apart from this, it will add beautiful places of tourist attraction in the Northeast and promote tourism. This important infrastructure project will improve inter-city connectivity between Guwahati, Shillong and Silchar, which passes through Ri Bhoi, Eastern Khasi hills, west Jantia hills, eastern Jantia hills in Meghalaya and Cachar district in Assam. Apart from this, it promotes socio-economic development in Meghalaya, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
