Teacher recruitment paper leak case in Odisha: Police arrested 6 including gangster, main examination canceled

The main examination for the posts of Revenue Inspector, Assistant Revenue Inspector, ICDS Supervisor and Amin and Statistical Area Surveyor was canceled.

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police on Wednesday arrested six people from different parts of Odisha on charges of alleged involvement in the paper leak of the teacher recruitment examination. Special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) -2025 was to be held on 20 July. However, the police said that a handwritten question paper with answers went viral on social media a day earlier. DGP (CID-Crime Branch) Vinayatosh Mishra said that it was found to be the actual copy of the question set prepared by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE). He said that BSE immediately postponed the examination and requested the crime branch to investigate the matter.

Data entry operator is the kingpin in the Board of Education

DGP (CID-Crime Branch) Vinayatosh Mishra said that till now we have arrested six people including gangster Jitan Moharana, who was working as a data entry operator in the BSE office. DGP Mishra said that Moharana shared the question paper with various persons, in which the other five have been arrested. Bijay Kumar Mishra has been arrested from Raigada district, Sanatan Bisoi from Koraput, Ram Ji Prasad Gupta from Cuttack, Ajay Kumar Sahu from Ganjam and Jayant Kumar Raut from Balasor. DGP (CID-Crime Branch) Vinayatosh Mishra said that Moharana first gave the handwritten question paper to Bijay Mishra and Sanatan Bisoi, who is a member of the Ex-Cadre Teacher Association. He said that both persons deposited Rs 2.40 lakh in Moharna’s wife’s bank account.

Racket was active in many districts

The DGP said that the bank accounts of the accused persons are being verified. This racket was active in many districts and was selling question papers for millions of rupees. DGP (CID-Crime Branch) Vinayatosh Mishra said that investigation is on to find out the relationship of the accused. Meanwhile, Odisha Subordinate Staff Selection Commission (OSSSC) canceled the main examination for the posts of Revenue Inspector, Assistant Revenue Inspector, ICDS Supervisor and Amin and Statistical Area Surveyor under the Joint Recruitment Examination 2023. According to a notice issued by OSSSC on Wednesday, the main examination was to be held from 1 August to 4 September. The examination was canceled in response to a legal challenge after allegations of irregularities in the preliminary examination for these posts. The OSSC said that further announcement will be made in relation to the examination.
