Chandigarh News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Maan on Saturday claimed that the BJP -led Central Government wants to remove the names of more than eight lakh ration card holders in the state under the National Food Security Act, but their government will not allow it. Maan also questioned the criteria adopted by the Center to suggest the removal of the names of the beneficiaries for the Public Distribution System (PDS). CM Mann said that the central government wrote a letter to the Punjab government saying that the names of 8,02,493 ration card holders should be removed from their state, because they are no longer eligible for it. Mann said that if we consider four members per family, then at least 32 lakh people of the state will be affected by this step. Attacking the BJP government, Mann said that on one hand he is saying that he wants to make the country a ‘world guru’. On the other hand, after ‘vote thief’, they are becoming ‘ration thieves’.

A total of 1.53 crore beneficiaries in Punjab

Questioning the criteria adopted to cancel the names of the beneficiaries, the Chief Minister claimed that the Center has said that the beneficiaries who have a four -wheeler or a turnover of Rs 25 lakh and have more than 2.50 acres of land, are ineligible. Maan asked that if a ration card holder gets a government job and goes to the city from his village, will the rest of his family members not get ration? He said that his government will not allow the Center to finish a single ration card. He said that as long as Bhagwant Mann is the Chief Minister, not a single card will be allowed to end. CM Bhagwant Mann said that there are a total of 1.53 crore beneficiaries in Punjab, who are given wheat. But he (BJP) says that many of them are fake beneficiaries.

Maan wrote a letter to the central government

Said that we have verified 1.29 crore beneficiaries. I have written a letter to the Center to give six months time so that it can be known who is right or wrong (verification of beneficiaries). He said that this is AAP government and we are always standing with the poor. Under NFSA, each beneficiary is entitled to get 5 kg of wheat per month at the rate of Rs 2 per kg. Giving the example of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Mann said that according to the criteria of the Center, there will not be a single beneficiary in Punjab for this scheme. He said that if you have sealing or table fans, scooters, electric meters, then you are out of this scheme. He claimed that the Center says that 24,097 people taking ration have four wheelers. Responding to the BJP’s allegation of forcibly stopping the awareness camps, Mann asked how they can collect personal data like someone’s phone number, PAN details.
