Kishtwar Cloudburst: So far, at least 60 people have died and more than 100 people have been injured in the tragedy of horrific cloudburst in Chisoti village of Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Union Minister Jitendra Singh visited the spot late on Friday night and said that the first priority of the government is to take out the missing people from the debris.

“Never seen such a disaster before”-Jitendra Singh

Talking to reporters in Chisoti village, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, “The disaster of this scale has never been seen in this area at least in this area. The priority is to remove the missing people from the debris.” He told that many people are still buried under the rubble and despite the difficult situations, the relief teams are working hard.

Weather and territory became challenges, helicopters could not reach

Jitendra Singh said that this disaster is also related to natural calamity as well as the challenges of weather and difficult terrain. Due to bad weather, the helicopters engaged in relief work could not reach Kishtwar and are currently waiting in Udhampur. Despite this, NDRF, SDRF, Army, Air Force and Jammu and Kashmir Police started relief equipment throughout the night and started relief work.

Village and structure completely destroyed due to cloudburst

On August 14, at around 12:25 pm, the floods caused by cloudburst in Chisoti village caused huge havoc. The temporary market, community kitchen, 16 houses, three temples, government buildings and a 30 -meter bridge were completely destroyed. More than a dozen vehicles were also washed away in floods. This village was the last vehicle in the road leading to Machail Mata Temple.

Modi government gives priority

Jitendra Singh said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken this disaster seriously and immediately held a high -level meeting. He also spoke to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. Singh said, “I reached here first as soon as the Independence Day program is over. You can understand how much priority and urgency the Modi government is giving this disaster.”

The structures after 2014 were swept away

Jitendra Singh said that before 2014 there was neither road connectivity in this area, no electricity, no mobile tower nor toilets. All this developed in the last few years and the number of devotees increased in the journey of Machail Mata. But this entire system was destroyed in a few seconds. The government has also offered to provide the facility of airlifting seriously injured in outside states.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh clarified that the government’s priority is the search for missing people and help for the injured. Despite the difficulties of the weather and territory, relief teams are working continuously. The relief package and further action under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direct surveillance and further action are being considered.
