Bareilly Violence: Tauqir Raza called for a protest in support of the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign. On Friday, there was a violent clash between the protesters and the police after the Namaz.

Bareilly violence: The police on Saturday arrested the local Maulvi and the chief of Ittehad-e-Millat Council Raza Khan, the main accused in the Bareilly violence. Tauqir Raza had called for a protest in support of the ‘I Love Muhammad’ Abhiyan. On Friday, there was a violent clash between the protesters and the police after the Namaz. After the uproar in Bareilly on Friday, the police arrested eight accused, including Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan, on Saturday. The police have registered 10 cases in different police stations. Maulana Tauqir has also been accused in a trial. At the same time, orders have been issued to discontinue internet service for 48 hours in the district. Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya said that Tauqir Raza has been taken into custody. The situation is peaceful and under control.

A planned conspiracy was violence: DM

Raza claimed that DM and SSP reached his house when he was about to leave for Friday prayers. The police force was called and put them under house arrest. He also warned that efforts to suppress religious sentiments would vomit. He claimed that if I had gone for Friday prayers, nothing like this would have happened. Lathi was deliberately run on Muslims. They have been accused of false allegations. He further said that as gangster Atik Ahmed was shot, shoot me too. The government is responsible for 140 crore people. Intolerance towards a group is unacceptable. He claimed that there was no Hindu-Muslim dispute this time. The police persecuted Muslims. Khan’s statement came after the statement of DM Singh and DIG Ajay Kumar Sahni in which he said that violence is the result of a planned conspiracy. He called it an attempt to disturb the peace despite the implementation of Section 163 of BNSS in the state, which stops unauthorized meetings.

Attempt to disturb peace in the city

DM Singh said that a few days ago an organization proposed to take out a march on Friday and hand over a memorandum in support of the protest. We informed them that any such program would require written permission, as Section 163 of BNSS (power to issue orders in immediate cases of nuisance or danger) is effective throughout the district. He said that despite this, some people came out on the streets after Friday prayers and tried to disturb the peace. The dispute is on 9 September, when the police in Kanpur had filed an FIR against 24 people for allegedly written ‘I Love Muhammad’ during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession on 4 September. Some Hindu groups objected to this and described it as “deviations from tradition” and “deliberate provocative”. This dispute soon spread to many districts of Uttar Pradesh and states like Uttarakhand and Karnataka, which led to protests and police action.
