The road to hell was paved with good intentions: Congress

Congress News: Congress and BJP have come face to face regarding many definitions of Aravali. Congress claimed that under the new definition, 90 percent of the Aravalli hills will not be considered Aravalli.

Congress News : To save the Aravalli hills, the Supreme Court gave a big decision and the court completely banned the granting of new mining leases in Aravalli. However, the ongoing mining will continue and the court has asked the central government to prepare a management plan for the hills spread across four states. Meanwhile, Congress on Thursday criticized the Modi government for the Environment Ministry’s recommendation of a new definition of the Aravalli Hills. Congress said that this will have a serious impact on the environment and people’s health and it should be reviewed immediately. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh claimed that the purpose of the new definition is to ban mining, but the end result will be that 90 percent of the Aravali hills will no longer be considered Aravali.

New definition recommended

The Congress leader said on his X handle that the Aravalli hills extend from Delhi to Gujarat via Haryana and Rajasthan. This hill has been destroyed in the last few years due to mining, construction and flouting of all the rules. He further said that now it seems that this sensitive and widespread ecosystem will face another big blow. Also quoting the news of an English newspaper, Jairam said that the Union Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has recommended a new definition of Aravalli Hills to the Supreme Court. He said that the purpose of this definition is to ban mining, but in reality it will also mean that 90 percent of the Aravali Hills will no longer be considered Aravali.

90 percent area will not be considered Aravali

He further said that it is clear that the Supreme Court has accepted this changed definition. He further said that this is strange and it will have a serious impact on the environment and public health. This is why this decision should be reviewed immediately. Ramesh said that the road to hell is indeed paved with good intentions. According to the definition, any land that is 100 meters or more above the local level will be considered part of the Aravalli Hills along with the slopes and surrounding land. It has been claimed in the media report that the panel did not mention that according to this definition, more than 90 percent of the Aravalli hills will no longer be considered Aravalli.
