This state became the first state to carry out the most forestry in the country, afforestation on 32,933 hectares of land

Officials of the Forest and Wildlife Department said that 47,635 hectares of forest land in the state has been reused for other purposes.

Lucknow: The state government said on Wednesday that Uttar Pradesh has made the most afforestation in the country for the year 2024-25 by effectively using the CAMPA fund of the central government. UP has become the first state in the country in terms of afforestation. According to the official records, UP has completed afforestation on 32,933 hectares of land using the compensatory afforestation fund management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) funds, which is about 86 percent of its target.

Establishment of Jatayu Breeding Center in Maharajganj

The major contribution to this achievement has come from Shivalik Forest Division, Kashi Wildlife Division and Varanasi Forest Division. Several other important initiatives have been implemented under the CAMPA Fund, including the establishment of the Jatayu Breeding Center in Maharajganj, projects for water refinement and soil conservation, as well as the purchase of forest vehicles to assist in the development and conservation efforts of patrol posts. Officials of the Forest and Wildlife Department said that 47,635 hectares of forest land in the state has been reused for other purposes and a target of 38,092 hectares of compensation is targeted.

Offonation on the remaining 3,261 hectares soon

Forest department officials said that the department has completed afforestation in 32,933.97 hectares by 31 March 2025. The department said that this is the highest achievement in compensatory afforestation across India. He said that the remaining 3,261 hectares are expected to be covered soon. The Campa funds are used and management under the Forestization Fund Act of 2016 and 2018. Using this fund, the Forest and Wildlife Department of Uttar Pradesh established a Jatayu Protection and Breeding Center in the Campierganj range of Maharajganj in September 2024. It is particularly the world’s first breeding center for endangered Asian vultures.

Government is using Campa fund

For the year 2025-26, the state has targeted to carry out forestry on 1,896 hectares of land. Apart from planting trees, the CAMPA funds are also being used to establish important environmental and wildlife projects such as watershed improvement, soil conservation, housing employees and officers for housing, nursery, solar water pump, forest protection, wildlife management and rescue centers.
