Amit Shah: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said in Patna on Saturday that when the appropriate time comes, the statehood of Jammu and Kashmir will be restored. Shah is on Bihar tour regarding elections. He also promised to find a good solution to the demands raised by the people of Union Territory Ladakh. Speaking in Patna, he also claimed that after the abrogation of Article 370, terrorism-hit Jammu and Kashmir has taken a U-turn. Said that no local terrorist has been recruited in the last nine months. The Union Home Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir, where separatism was flourishing since the 1990s, has seen a qualitative change. Earlier, Pakistan did not need to send terrorists from across the border. They used to put weapons in the hands of our children. Now the situation has changed. The people of Jammu and Kashmir feel that they belong to the entire country and the entire country belongs to them.

Promise of solution to Ladakh people also

He further said that today democracy has been restored in Jammu and Kashmir. Panchayat and Municipal Corporation elections have been held, and Assembly elections have also been held. Rajya Sabha elections will also be held at some time. He was asked about a statement by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in which Abdullah had said that a gap remains between Jammu and Kashmir and New Delhi due to the statehood not being restored even after a year of his swearing-in. Shah replied that Abdullah might be saying this due to political compulsions. But statehood will be restored at the appropriate time. This will be done after discussion with Abdullah. Regarding the recent agitation in Ladakh, Shah said that the central government is in talks with the committees of Leh and Kargil. He said that we urge people to be patient. There will be a good solution to all their legitimate demands. The gesture was probably towards the joint leadership of the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, which represent political and civil society groups of Ladakh.

End Maoism by December 31, 2026

About teacher-turned-activist Sonam Wangchuk, Shah said she was in jail for instigating protests that led to the burning of the BJP office in Leh and vandalism of some other public buildings. Shah replied that I can talk about the demands of the people, not about any individual. As far as Wangchuk’s case is concerned, the matter is before the court, which will decide on the basis of evidence. The Home Minister also said that the government is running a campaign against Maoist insurgency. Accused ultra-left ideology of underdevelopment of tribal areas. Shah said that in the 11 years since Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, we have demolished at least 600 Maoist camps. Their financial resources have been exhausted and their access to weapons has been cut off. Said that Maoism will be completely wiped out by December 31, 2026.
