This year so far six engine shutdowns and three 'Made Calls' incidents

Aircraft Engine Shut Down: From January to July this year, six aircraft engine shutdowns and three ‘Made Calls’ have been recorded in India. These include major airlines such as IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India and Air India Express.

Aircraft Engine Shut Down: Air travel is counted as the safest means, but recent figures are raising concern about its safety. The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation has revealed that this year so far, six times in the country’s engines have been closed suddenly and three times the pilots have had to give ‘Made Call’ in the event of a deadly crisis. The number of technical disturbances and emergency situations shows the need to strengthen the monitoring system of the civil aviation system. According to experts, transparency and quick action in the investigation process is very important to ensure the safety of air travelers in future.

Which airlines were affected

According to the data presented in the Rajya Sabha, there were incidents of engine shutdown twice in Indigo and SpiceJet, while in Air India and Alliance Air, such a case came to light once. At the same time, Air India, IndiGo and Air India Express are included in the three Made-Day call incidents. The most serious incident occurred on 12 June, when Air India flight AI 171 collided with a building soon after Ahmedabad to London Gatwick.

What is ‘Made Call’?

When an aircraft is in a deadly crisis and requires immediate help, the pilot informs the air traffic control thrice by saying “May Day”. This is an international recognized emergency signal, which is used when the safety of the aircraft is in danger.

Investigation of Air India accident continues

Regarding the crash of Air India flight AI 171, the minister said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation (AAIB) has released a primary report on July 12, but it is just based on facts. The investigation is still going on and no conclusion has been reached in it. On the question whether the government is investigating the accident from the point of view of any conspiracy, Minister Moho said that “every aspect is being investigated so that the possible causes or supportive factors of the accident can be detected.”

A total of 36 accidents since 2022

In response to another question, the minister informed that a total of 36 air accidents have been recorded since 2022, including 2 scheduled aircraft, 2 non-scheduled aircraft, 19 training aircraft, 2 private aircraft and 11 helicopters.

It is clear from these figures that there are challenges about air security in India. The number of frequent technical disturbances and emergency situations reflects the need to strengthen the monitoring system of the civil aviation system. According to experts, transparency and quick action in the investigation process is very important to ensure the safety of air travelers in future.
