Delhi Traffic Alert: Before Diwali, traffic in Delhi has become out of control. As the traffic situation worsened in many parts of the city amid the rush, Delhi Police on Thursday canceled leaves of all traffic personnel to handle the situation. During the festive season, there is a traffic jam at the major intersections of the city. There is heavy traffic jam on major markets and routes. Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Ajay Chaudhary told PTI that maximum deployment has been made across the city. Personnel have been deployed on motorcycles and leaves have been cancelled. We are fully prepared to manage the crowd and ensure smooth movement in the coming days. This week, social media was filled with posts of passengers stuck in traffic jams in the city. One user wrote that there is a huge traffic jam at Mangolpuri S Block Chowk for the last one and a half hour. There is neither any traffic nor any Delhi Police personnel here.

Army Chief’s convoy stuck in traffic jam

In another post it was said that the Army Chief’s convoy is stuck in the jam at Dhaula Kuan. This place is causing traffic jam. Something should be done immediately. One user commented that New Delhi is in traffic jam for the second consecutive day. Where is the traffic management even in these VIP zones? Passengers said that the smooth roads remained blocked throughout the day. Many people shared pictures of vehicles crawling or parked near Connaught Place, Rajpath, ITO and major roads leading to Chandni Chowk, Karol Bagh and Khan Market. Huge crowds were seen in markets across Delhi, including Chandni Chowk, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar and Karol Bagh, which spread to nearby roads. There was traffic jam for several kilometers and the travel time doubled due to vehicles passing through narrow streets. On Thursday, long queues were seen at Pragati Maidan on Mathura Road towards East Delhi. Congestion was also seen in north-west Delhi, where heavy jams were reported at Outer Ring Road, Netaji Subhash Place and Madhuban Chowk in Pitampura.

People troubled by jam on major routes

On the Delhi-Gurugram corridor, traffic was disrupted for half an hour on the NH-48 flyover. Whereas the traffic near Jamia Millia Islamia also moved slowly. There were also reports of jam in Central, South, East, North-West, Outer and Outer-North Delhi. People shared pictures of crowded roads. There was continuous traffic jam on major routes like KG Marg, Vande Mataram Marg, Shahjahan Road, Sardar Patel Marg, Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Setu and Vikas Marg. Commuters also complained of jam on Lala Hardev Sahay Marg, GT Karnal Road, Raj Niwas Marg, Roshanara Road near Ghantaghar Chowk, Mahatma Gandhi Road, Baba Kharak Singh Road and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Road. A traveler wrote on X that every major road is jammed today. It took me 90 minutes to reach ITO from Dhaula Kuan. Another wrote that it already feels like Diwali, there are no lights in Delhi but cars are flowing.
