The accident happened at a place where there was no means of communication. 21 people from Tinsukia district of Assam died when a truck fell into a remote valley in Arunachal Pradesh. Army PRO Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, quoting the sole survivor, said the incident took place on December 8 on the Hyuliang-Chaglagam road in Anjaw district in the eastern part of the hill state, when a truck carrying 22 laborers from Tinsukia district fell into a ditch. The accident site is located in remote terrain, where connectivity is limited. He said that the bodies are being taken out with the help of ropes. The ADC of Heuliang has informed the SP of Anjaw. He has reached the spot.

Search and rescue operations continue in Chaglagam

Chipra General Reserve Engineer Force is engaged in relief and rescue work. The Indian Army has also started search and rescue operations in Chaglagam area of ​​Arunachal Pradesh. The operation was launched on the basis of information about a vehicle accident near kilometer 40 on the Hyuliang-Chaglagam road late on the night of December 10. Army PRO said that on Thursday morning, the Army’s Spear Corps along with several search and rescue teams, medical teams, GREF representatives, local police, NDRF personnel conducted the rescue operation. After four hours of intensive search and rope descent, the truck was found in an inaccessible ravine about 200 meters below the road near kilometer 40, which was not visible from the helicopter or the road due to dense trees and bushes. Anjav district administration has also called SDRF (Military Defense Force). ADC Hyuliang District Council member is also interrogating the sub-contractor of Chaglagam to confirm the background and exact number of workers hired.

All the workers were going for the construction of the hostel.

The Army said that despite the difficult terrain and low visibility, the Indian Army is making every possible effort to locate the remaining people and provide immediate assistance in coordination with the civil administration and other agencies. Tinsukia Circle Officer Jaideep Rajak told PTI that the area is inaccessible and accurate information will be available only after reaching the spot. He further said that initial reports showed that these workers were employed by the contractor for a project in Heuliang. All were traveling in a dumper which slipped off the road and fell into a gorge about 1,000 feet deep. The rescue operation is going on. Tinsukia Senior Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar said that 22 laborers from the district were going to Arunachal Pradesh for the construction of a hostel. He was a resident of Dhelaghat of Gilpukari tea garden. Of the 22 people traveling in the dumper, 21 have died. Budheshwar Deep, a labourer, managed to escape from the spot and called his relatives on Wednesday morning. The deceased are Rahul Kumar, Somir Deep, Arjun Kumar, Pankaj Manki, Ajay Manki, Bijay Kumar, Abhoy Bhumij, Rohit Manki, Birendra Kumar, Agor Tanti, Dhiren Chhatriya, Rozoni Nag, Deep Gowala, Ramsebak Suna, Sonatan Nag, Sanjay Kumar, Karan Kumar and Junash Munda.
