Russia- Ukrain War: The war between Russia and Ukraine has once again caught fire. This time this war is literally creating a ruckus. A Ukrainian drone attack near Sochi, a popular tourist destination in Russia, situated on the banks of the Black Sea caused a fierce fire at the oil depot. Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodimir Zelanski has announced the exchange of 1200 prisoners, which is being considered an important part of the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
Ukraine once again attacked
On Sunday, Governor Veniyamin Kondratayev, Governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, informed that a fuel tank caught fire due to the debris of Ukrainian drone, causing a strong explosion in the oil depot. In the viral video on social media, it was seen that the huge gubbles of smoke kept rising in the sky. More than 120 firefighters continued to extinguish the fire. After this attack, Russia’s Civil Aviation institution Rosaviatsia temporarily stopped flights from Sochi Airport.
Drone attacks in other areas also
Four people were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack in the Voronez area located in the north direction from Sochi. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, 93 Ukrainian drones were killed in Russia and Black Sea region in the last 24 hours. At the same time, seven people were injured in a Russian missile attack in the city of Mycolive, Southern Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia fired 76 drones and 7 missiles on Ukraine on Sunday, out of which 60 drones and missiles were intercepted, while the rest hit the target.
The most dangerous phase of the week
This incident took place at a time when Ukraine faced the deadliest Russian attack this week. On Thursday, 31 people were killed in a joint Russian drone and missile attack, including 5 children. More than 150 people were injured in this attack.
Zelansky announced this
President Zelancesi on Sunday informed the X (East Twitter) that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to exchange 1200 prisoners. The agreement was possible after a conversation in Istanbul in July.
He wrote, “The list is going on to unlock the return of our citizens.” Zelansky also told that he discussed the preparation of the upcoming round of talks with Russia with senior officials. However, no immediate comments have been made by Russia on this agreement.
Trump gave peace deadline
Former US President Donald Trump has recently given a deadline to Russian President Putin till 8 August that there is progress in peace talks. He warned that if this does not happen, new economic restrictions can be imposed. However, he also expressed doubt that Russia specializes in avoiding these sanctions.
The Russian-Ukraine war has now entered into a new era violence and diplomacy. On the one hand, drone and missile attacks are causing havoc in oil depots and residential areas, while on the other hand, the announcement of exchange of 1200 prisoners from Zelanski is raising hopes of any major diplomatic initiative in the coming days.
