Nitin Gadkari: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari scolded the officers of the National Highway Authority. Said that negligence in road construction will not be tolerated. Be prepared to take action if quality is found to be poor. Gadkari held a review meeting with National Highway Authority (NHAI) officials in Gandhinagar. He advised the contractors to ensure high standards in road construction. The Road Transport and Highways Minister asked the contractors and officers to give top priority to the convenience and safety of the people in the construction and reconstruction of highways. He assured the state government that the Center will allocate Rs 20,000 crore for the construction and reconstruction of national highways and other related projects in Gujarat.

There should be no negligence in the construction of highways

Gadkari on Wednesday inspected the under-construction section of National Highway-48 in Himmatnagar town of Sabarkantha district of Gujarat and reviewed the progress of the ongoing work on the Motipura flyover and an underpass on the highway. In the review meeting held in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Gadkari asked officials and contractors to ensure high quality in road construction or else face action. Strict instructions were issued that no negligence will be tolerated in the construction and reconstruction of national highways. Union Minister Gadkari gave strict instructions to the officials and contractors to complete all the road construction works within the stipulated time limit. All senior officials and contractors were instructed to give top priority to smooth road connectivity and take the matter seriously.

Will give Rs 20,000 crore to Gujarat for development

During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that since the national highways carry more than 35 percent of the total traffic load in the state, they should be properly maintained. If necessary, NHAI should also do expansion work. CM Patel also gave a representation to the Union Minister for early completion of the ongoing works on three major routes: Ahmedabad-Mumbai, Rajkot-Gondal-Jetpur and Ahmedabad-Udaipur. Gadkari assured that the Center will allocate Rs 20,000 crore for the construction and reconstruction of national highways and other related projects in Gujarat. On Thursday, Gadkari reached Surat in South Gujarat and reviewed various works being done by NHAI on the highways passing through there.
