Maharashtra Winter Session: The opposition is continuously opposing the tea party of the government for not appointing LoP in Maharashtra. The opposition says that this is a constitutional post and appointment should be made on it.
Maharashtra Winter Session : One phase of municipal corporation elections in Maharashtra has been completed and the second phase of voting will be held on December 20. Meanwhile, a day before the start of the winter session in the Maharashtra Assembly, the opposition has boycotted the government’s traditional tea party. Maha Vikas Aghadi is continuously citing the government’s failure to appoint Leader of Opposition (LoP) in both the Houses of the Legislature as the main reason. Congress Legislature Party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, while discussing with media persons, said that the invitation for tea was sent by the government to different MLAs apart from the opposition leader.
The government does not trust the constitution
Vijay Wadettiwar said that at present there is no LoP in either of the two houses and both are constitutional posts. He further said that by keeping both the posts vacant, the government has shown that it does not have faith in the Constitution and that is why the opposition has boycotted the tea program. After the opposition’s defeat in the state assembly elections last year, no party could win 10 percent of the total 288 seats. According to the rules, to claim the post of LoP, any opposition party must win 10 percent of the total seats. Wadettiwar said that in the year 1980, BJP had 14 MLAs, yet the post of LoP was given to the opposition party. Similarly, in 1985, 16 BJP MLAs won and yet he was made the opposition leader. He said that Congress never kept the post of LoP vacant.
6-7 farmers are committing suicide every day
The Congress leader clearly said that if the government wants to keep the constitutional post vacant then we also have the option to boycott the tea programme. On the other hand, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Bhaskar Jadhav claimed that the government is scared even after the number of MLAs in the opposition is less, because it has committed many sins. He alleged that the post of LoP is constitutional and the government is afraid that the opposition leaders will expose their misdeeds. Jadhav further said that the government is not able to decide on LoP, but it has appointed two Deputy Chief Ministers. Which is not constitutional in any way. Apart from this, Vijay Wadettiwar also said that every single day 6-7 farmers are committing suicide in the state and the government had gained votes by promising farm loan waiver, but now the government is delaying in implementing it.
