Vinesh Phogat: Star Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has taken a U-turn from her retirement. She will once again place Olympic bets. On Friday, Vinesh Phogat announced that she would come out of retirement to win another Olympic medal at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games because “her fire hasn’t gone out yet” and she was just getting buried in fatigue and noise. He announced his coming out of retirement by making a post on Instagram.

Vinesh posted on her Instagram account, “People kept asking if Paris was the end. For a long time, I didn’t have an answer. I needed to step away from the mat, from the pressure, from the expectations, even from my dreams. For the first time in years, I let myself breathe. It took me time to understand the burden of my journey – the ups and downs, the heartbreaks, the sacrifices, the versions of me the world never saw. I still love this game. I still compete.” Discipline, routine, all this is in my system. No matter how far I go, a part of me remains on the mat. This time, I am not walking alone, along with my son, my biggest cheerleader.
Why did Vinesh take retirement?
31-year-old Vinesh Phogat had stayed away from the sport after suffering a heartbreak at the Paris Games last year. In the 2024 Paris Olympics, he was disqualified from wrestling in the 50kg category because his weight was 100 grams more than the limit. In such a situation, Vinesh was very close to winning the gold medal and could not bear the sudden shock. He had appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), demanding a joint silver medal, but the decision was not changed, due to which he announced his retirement.
Vinesh has become MLA
Vinesh Phogat entered the Haryana Assembly elections this year and was elected MLA from Julana constituency on Congress ticket. Vinesh has already created history by becoming the first Indian woman wrestler to reach an Olympic gold-medal bout. Three-time Olympian Vinesh won gold medals in both the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games and brought glory to India.
