Kolkata: Two people died on Saturday in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. The police officer said on Saturday that the victim father and son were found in an injured state inside their house in Jafarabad located in the violence affected Samserganj area. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared both dead.
His family alleged that the miscreants looted their house and stabbed both of them before leaving. The official said that another person was shot in Dhulian of Samserganj block in a separate incident. Due to which he was injured. Violence erupted in the district during the protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act. People of violence affected areas in Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Friday described it as the work of outsiders to spoil harmony between two communities.
Police said that the news of fresh violence was received from Murshidabad district of West Bengal on Saturday, in which a person was shot. The incident took place in Dhulian of Samserganj block in Muslim -majority district. He said that during the protests over the Waqf (Amendment) Act, there was a large -scale violence from Sati and Samseerganj areas of the district on Friday. Violence affected areas like Dhulian Ratanpur, where Hindus and Muslims live together.
Police arrested 118 people, appeal not to pay attention to rumors
People of both communities said that they have not seen any such incident earlier. After Friday’s violence, BSF was deployed in some areas of the district, which is adjacent to the border of Bangladesh. Kolkata’s ADG (law and order) Javed Shamim said that 118 people involved in the violence have been arrested so far.
He has urged people not to pay attention to rumors on social media and remain calm. Senior officials of ADG and IG level are monitoring the situation in Murshidabad and special forces have been deployed to prevent any kind of violence. ADG (law and order) Javed Shamim said that the people involved in the violence are being identified. Whoever is guilty, strict action will be taken against him. Police forces have been deployed in the violence affected areas. He has appealed not to pay attention to any rumor.
