Nepal Political Crisis: Violent clashes took place between the monarchy supporters and security forces on Friday in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. After the situation deteriorated, the administration has imposed curfew in Tinkun, Sinamangal and Koteshwar areas. Apart from this, Tribhuvan International Airport has been closed till 10 pm tonight.
Violence erupted during protest
According to local media reports, violence erupted when the protesters broke the security cordon and started stone pelting on the police. In response, the security forces fired tear gas shells and lathi-charged to disperse the crowd. During this time, the protesters set fire to a business complex, shopping mall, a political party headquarters and a media house building.
More than 12 policemen have been injured in this violent clash, while many protesters have been detained. In view of the situation in the capital, a huge deployment of security forces has been done.
Rally on the streets of thousands of monarchy supporters
Thousands of monarchy supporters took to the streets in this demonstration on Friday. The performance was mainly led by the National Democracy Party and other monarchy organizations. The protesters held pictures of former King Gyanendra Shah, waving the national flag of Nepal. They were shouting slogans like “King Come, Save the Desh” and “We want the monarchy back”. In view of the increasing tension in Kathmandu, the administration has deployed special security forces.
Increasing demand for restoration of monarchy in Nepal
Nepal ended its 240 -year -old monarchy under a parliamentary announcement in 2008 and converted the country into a federal, democratic republic. However, in recent months, the demand for restoration of monarchy is gaining momentum. Former King Gyanendra Shah had issued a video message on the occasion of Democracy Day on 19 February and appealed to the public for support. Since then, the demonstrations of monarchy supporters in Nepal have increased.
Curfew order of Nepal Government
The Ministry of Home Affairs of the Government of Nepal and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu have implemented curfew in many areas in view of the situation. There will be a timing of curfew from 3:25 PM to 10:00 PM. From Gaushala, Tribhuvan International Airport, Maitradhara, Tinkuna, Koteshwar Koteshwar to Jadibuti Bridge and Balumari Bridge from Baneshwar intersection to Shankhamul Bridge, Gaushala intersection to Naya Baneshwar Chowk will continue to be curfew in these areas. During this time, there will be strict ban on any kind of gathering, procession, demonstrations, picketing and movement in the curfew sector.
Security link, Nepali army deployed
After the clashes, the Nepali army has been deployed on the streets of Kathmandu. The administration and security forces are engaged in controlling the situation, but the increasing number of protesters remains stressed.
Former King Gyanendra’s growing public support
Earlier this month, when the former king Gyanendra returned from a religious journey, thousands of supporters gave him a grand welcome at Tribhuvan International Airport. The protesters raised slogans like “King come back, save the country” and “We want monarchy”. Some supporters also displayed pictures of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with Gyanendra Shah, which is giving more strength to the demand of Hindu nation in Nepal.
