Waqf Bill Protest: The protest against Waqf Act in Murshidabad district of West Bengal suddenly turned into violence on Friday. Initially, the protest that was taking place in a peaceful manner suddenly became furious and the protesters clashed with the police. The situation deteriorated when the protesters tried to move forward instead of the fixed space.
Police tried to break barricades, trains set fire
When the police stopped the protesters, they tried to break the barricades and set the police vehicles on fire. To control the situation, the police had to use light force and tear gas shells were also fired. Many policemen are reported injured in this violence.
Protesters equipped with sticks
According to the police, a large number of forces have been called on the spot and the situation is being monitored. In the video, many protesters are seen equipped with sticks. The political atmosphere has also been hot about this entire incident. The BJP has taken a dig at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
BJP accuses Mamta
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya alleged that unrest is spreading in the state due to Mamata Banerjee’s inflammatory speeches. Amit Malviya said, “West Bengal is again in flames. Violent Islamic crowd is raging on the streets of Murshidabad and the police is struggling to handle the situation. Mamata Banerjee’s Muslim appeasement is taking Bengal on the path of Bangladesh.”
Significantly, Murshidabad is the area where the incidents of attacks on Hindus were revealed during the recent Kartik Puja ceremony. Now this new controversy has raised serious questions on the law and order of the state.
Dissatisfaction against bill in Muslim community
There is deep dissatisfaction between the Muslim community and some organizations against this bill. This bill has been passed by Parliament recently and many objections are being raised regarding its provisions. The protesters believe that this bill will weaken their rights on Waqf properties.
Police had to use lathicharge and tear gas
The protest became violent on 8 April 2025 in Raghunathganj area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The protesters demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Bill and threw stones at the police, in response to which the police had to use lathicharge and tear gas. During this time, police vehicles were set on fire and National Highway 12 was blocked, which further increased the tension.
