SIR Issue: Election Commission has now announced that after Bihar, it is going to conduct SIR in 12 states in the second phase. Meanwhile, Congress has once again taken the Election Commission into question.
SIR Issue : Election Commission Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar has made it clear that he will gradually conduct Special Intensive Review (SIR) across the country. In this series, the process of SIR will be started in 12 states from November 4. Meanwhile, Congress has given its reaction in this matter and raised questions. Congress said that the intentions and credibility of the Election Commission are under doubt because neither the voters nor the opposition is satisfied with it. Congress media and publicity chief Pawan Khera said in a video message that we have not yet received answers to the questions related to the SIR done in Bihar. The situation was such that the Supreme Court had to intervene several times to improve the SIR in Bihar.
BJP’s influence on Election Commission
Pawan Kheda said that after having SIR in Bihar, it has become known that BJP has made the Election Commission its puppet. He said that when SIR is done, Election Commission employees go door to door, add new voters and remove those who need to be removed. But in Bihar, not a single voter’s name was added, while 65 lakh votes were removed under the SIR process, which raises many questions. He said that now the Election Commission is going to repeat this process in 12 states. The Congress leader said that after Rahul Gandhi revealed vote theft in Aland assembly constituency of Karnataka, the SIT has said that a centralized campaign is being conducted to remove names from the voter list.
SIR will be in 12 states in the second phase
The Congress leader said that we will get detailed information after conducting SIT investigation in Karnataka. Kheda alleged in the video message that amid all this, getting SIR done by an Election Commission whose credibility and intentions are under doubt does not seem right. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Monday announced that the Election Commission will conduct the second phase of SIR in 12 states and union territories. These states and union territories include Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Of these, elections will be held in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala and West Bengal in the year 2026. The Chief Election Commissioner clarified that elections are going to be held in Assam next year, hence SIR will be done separately in the voter list there.
