Waqf Bill : The Waqf Amendment Bill has passed in the Lok Sabha. After discussing for more than 12 hours, the Lok Sabha passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025. It was announced by the Lok Sabha President Om Birla late at night. While 288 votes were cast in favor of this bill on the one hand, on the other hand, 232 votes were cast in the opposition and thus the Waqf amendment bill passed at 2 pm. Speaker Om Birla voted after the discussion was completed. During this time, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that there is no place for minorities in the world more secure than India and they are safe, because the majority are completely secular. At the same time, this bill will be introduced in Rajya Sabha today.
Opposition protested fiercely
At the same time, at the time of discussion on this bill, where the MPs of the ruling party supported the bill, the MPs of the opposition strongly opposed this bill. During this time there was a ruckus on many occasions. AIMIM MP Owaisi tore the Waqf bill after speaking, on which questions were raised by the ruling party. On the other hand, after the approval of the Waqf Amendment Bill from the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Imran Masood said that his party will continue to oppose it. In the Constitution of Baba Saheb, there is against the rights given to minorities.
What did Kiren Rijiju say?
Responding to the discussion before voting for this bill, Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju attacked the opposition fiercely. During this, he said that it is wrong to make allegations without reasoning. We are members of Parliament, we should understand the words we use. Some members have raised the points that some members have argued and some irrational things were also said. Some opposition MPs said that if this bill is unconstitutional, then they should tell how this is unconstitutional.
Rajya Sabha Asli challenge
Please tell here that the real exam on the Waqf Bill of the Modi government will be in Rajya Sabha on 3 April. It will not be so easy to pass this bill here. The biggest reason for this is that the Modi government does not have a clear majority in the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha has a total of 245 seats, out of which 237 are effective. 8 seats are still vacant. 119 MPs are needed for majority but NDA currently has 112 MPs in Rajya Sabha.
