Telangana CM: If everything goes well then assembly elections can be contested in Telangana at the age of 21. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday said a resolution will be passed in the state assembly seeking to amend the Constitution to reduce the minimum age for contesting assembly elections from 25 to 21 years. He termed his proposal to change the minimum age as the need of the hour and emphasized that the youth should play an important role in the active politics of the country. The Chief Minister was speaking after participating in the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Yatra Memorial Day here and presenting the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award to senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Salman Khurshid. Reddy praised former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi for reducing the minimum voting age from 21 years to 18 years, saying it helped strengthen the parliamentary democratic spirit in the country.

Reddy remembered Rajiv Gandhi

Reddy said that the 21-year-old IAS and IPS officers are working successfully in the districts. He wanted to know why no one can become an MLA at the age of 21? Reddy said that in the coming days, a resolution will be passed in the Telangana Assembly demanding constitutional amendment to reduce the minimum age for contesting assembly elections from 25 years to 21 years. The youth should be given the opportunity to run the country. He reminded that Rajiv Gandhi had undertaken the Sadbhavna Yatra to protect the integrity of the country. Reddy also reminded that the Gandhi family has inspired the entire country and the word Gandhi is synonymous with India. The Chief Minister attacked the opposition BRS, alleging that it is the B team of the BJP to divide votes in the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. He alleged that BRS has made a secret agreement with BJP for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The transfer of 21 percent votes to BJP in the Lok Sabha elections was enough to prove the conspiratorial politics of the BRS party in the state.

Collusion between BRS and BJP

He further alleged that now BRS has adopted the same political strategy in Jubilee Hills by-election and claimed that the next assembly elections will also witness the politics of collusion between BRS and BJP. He appealed to the people to thwart BRS’s attempt to divide votes in the Jubilee Hills by-election. Later, speaking after attending the ‘Sadar Sammelan’ organized by the Sri Krishna Sadar Sammelan Utsav Committee, Reddy said that the Yadav community was being given importance in providing political opportunities as well as benefits of all welfare schemes. The Chief Minister said that he is ready to resolve all the grievances of the Yadav community. He appealed to the Yadavs to cooperate in the development of Hyderabad. The Chief Minister recalled the important role played by the community in the formation and development of Telangana state.
