Vote Rigging: The Election Commission has responded to the press conference of Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha. He termed the allegations of vote rigging as baseless and asked why the appeal was not filed.
Vote Rigging : The Election Commission has hit back after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi burst the hydrogen bomb. He termed the Congress leader’s allegations of vote rigging as baseless. The Commission said that no appeal was filed against the voter list in Haryana, nor was more than one voting marked. Election Commission officials were reacting to the Congress leader’s claim that 25 lakh entries were fake and the assembly elections in Haryana last year were stolen. He also raised questions as to why the Congress leader’s booth agents did not mark voters who cast more than one vote in the October 2024 elections.
Why did Congress not raise any objection?
Refuting Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, the official said why no claim or objection was raised by the booth level agents of Congress during the amendment to avoid multiple names? Booth Level Agents, BLAs, are appointed by political parties to uncover any irregularities in the voter lists. Election Commission officials said that zero appeals were filed against the voter list and currently only 22 election petitions are pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. 23 election petitions were filed and one of them was withdrawn. He told that Rahul has raised the issue of Haryana’s Rai and Hodal assembly seats. An official suggested that 22 petitions have been filed for the Haryana Assembly elections and Rahul Gandhi can present all his evidence there.
Why are you opposing SIR?
Election petition can be filed in the High Court of the state within 45 days of the announcement. The officer further said that what were the Congress polling agents doing at the polling station? They should have lodged the objection only when the voter was voting or the polling agent was in doubt. Citing Election Commission efforts to streamline voter lists in states, officials wondered whether Gandhi supported SIR, which involves removing duplicate, dead and transferred voters in addition to citizenship verification. An officer asked whether he was opposing the SIR?
