Japan News: Japan is now constantly thinking about its national security and wants to increase its defense capability. Donald Trump is going to visit Japan this month where he will present his views in a strong manner.
Japan News : Amidst the changing war realities and increasing tension in the world, Japan is considering various options to strengthen its defense capability. Meanwhile, Japan’s new Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said on Wednesday that keeping in mind the changing realities, he will meet US President Donald Trump next week and will discuss this matter with Japan’s first female Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who took office on Tuesday. Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said that we are making full preparations for President Trump’s visit. At the same time, we sincerely hope that Trump’s first meeting with Takaichi during his October 27-29 visit will focus on strengthening the Japan-US alliance for both leaders.
Wants to make other countries partners
Toshimitsu Motegi said that apart from South Korea, Japan also hopes to cooperate with other regional partners including Australia and the Philippines. On the other hand, it also hopes to build stable and constructive relations with China in the multipolar system. Japan is currently undergoing a five-year military workup through 2027 as part of its national security strategy, which includes doubling its annual defense spending to 2 percent of GDP. This strategy, which would boost Japan’s ability to retaliate with long-range missiles, represents a major change from the principle of defense alone under Japan’s post-war pacifist constitution.
Japan will have to increase its military capability
The right-wing Japan Innovation Party is now replacing the Komeito party, and the party coalition has expressed concerns that the revised strategy could lead to an aggressive Japan under security fanatic Takaichi. Motegi said that Japan should also strengthen its military capability, keeping in mind drone attacks and cyber attacks in the war against Ukraine. He further said that the military construction that has been going on for five years will have to strongly strengthen its capability. Japan was asked by Trump to limit its defense spending to 5 percent of NATO’s GDP. Apart from this, under the security agreement with America, Japan may have to face demands for additional expenditure for about 50 thousand American soldiers. During this, Motegi said that the security of our country should be based on our own independent decisions.
