Auspicious events start from Makar Sankrantiry

According to Hindu religion, on the day of Makar Sankranti, Sun God completes the journey of twelve zodiac signs and enters Capricorn and starts a new journey. As soon as the Sun enters Capricorn, its Uttarayan begins and its powers increase. At this time Kharmas ends and the month of Magh begins. With this, auspicious works like marriage and tonsure start. That’s why happiness is celebrated. Arghya is offered to the Sun on the day of Makar Sankranti. He is offered red flowers, clothes, wheat, rice and betel nut. Khichdi is eaten on the day of Makar Sankranti. Whereas in Bihar, curd and bangles are eaten on this day.

  • Maha Punya Kaal (Most auspicious period): 03:13 PM to 04:48 AM (Auspicious for donation)
  • Brahma Muhurta: 5:27 am to 6:21 am (auspicious time for bathing)

On the day of Makar Sankranti, one should wake up before sunrise and take bath by mixing Ganga water in water. After this, clean the temple by wearing clean clothes. Fill a copper pot with clean water, add roli, flowers, jaggery and black sesame seeds and offer it to the Sun God. Offer Arghya to the Sun while chanting ‘Om Suryay Namah’. After this, offer sesame laddus and khichdi to the Sun God. Charity has special significance on this day. On the day of Makar Sankranti, pulses, rice, black-white sesame, khichdi and jaggery should be donated to the needy. Only satvik food should be eaten on this day.
