Will BJP minister's statement raise alarm bells in Maharashtra?

Maharashtra Politics: The politics of Maharashtra has once again come to a boil. The BJP minister said that our party belongs to the workers, whereas Shiv Sena and NCP identify with their leaders.

Maharashtra Politics : There is a debate on the identity of Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra politics. Meanwhile, the statement of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) minister Chandrakant Patil has created a political turmoil. The minister said that Shiv Sena is known as Uddhav Thackeray and NCP as its founder Sharad Pawar. This comment of the minister can now become an embarrassment for the ruling Mahayuti alliance. BJP leaders were trying to explain to the people that BJP is known as a party of its workers. At the same time, Shiv Sena and NCP are known because of their leaders.

Parties created identity as leaders

The grand alliance led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which includes Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), is in power in the state. Besides, both are sitting on the post of Deputy Chief Minister in the Mahayuti coalition government. On the other hand, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP are part of the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) with the Congress. Addressing a public gathering, Education Minister Chandrakant Patil said that Shiv Sena has always been known as the party of Balasaheb Thackeray, then as Uddhav Thackeray and in future perhaps will be known as the party of Aditya Thackeray. We can say the same thing about NCP (Sharatchandra Pawar) that it will also create its identity in the name of Sharad Pawar. But both these parties could never establish their identity as workers.

Uddhav Thackeray felt like this

Let us tell you that in the year 2022, Eknath Shinde had rebelled against Shiv Sena and formed the government in the state with the BJP by breaking the party’s MLAs. During that time, Eknath Shinde was made the Chief Minister with the support of BJP. A year later, Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Ajit Pawar also rebelled against his uncle Sharad Pawar and became the Deputy Chief Minister after breaking the MLAs and joining the Eknath Shinde-led government. Apart from this, the biggest blow to Uddhav Thackeray was when in February 2023, the Election Commission had given Shiv Sena and its election symbol ‘bow-arrow’ to the Eknath faction. Similarly, the Commission had also recognized Ajit Pawar faction as the real NCP. On the other hand, the Thackeray faction was given the name Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and a burning torch for the elections, while Sharad Pawar’s party was given the name NCP (Sharatchandra Pawar) and a man playing Turha (a traditional trumpet).
